Project transforming Downtown Clearwater’s Cleveland Street begins phase two, focusing on The Strand’s block
Transforming Cleveland Street into a more walkable, pedestrian-friendly area, the City of Clearwater’s streetscape project has begun work on phase two, which includes creating a streetscape area in front of The Strand’s location at 1101 Cleveland Street.
Phase two is a $2.9 million project with part one recreating Cleveland Street’s 1100 block, and is expected to be complete this August. The streetscape plan, which has already been completed from Osceola Avenue to Myrtle Avenue, is creating a landscaped median separating the lanes of traffic, with street parking on either side.
The timing of the streetscape project is simultaneous with The Strand’s construction, and once the renovation is complete, The Strand’s facade will flow seamlessly into the new Cleveland Street.
“The streetscape construction has great timing with The Strand’s construction since both are happening at the same time,” said Janeen Pearson, Sales Manager for The Strand. “We are very excited about the project – this entire stretch of Cleveland Street is going to be an extremely attractive area.”
The streetscape project also includes installation of paved crosswalks at all intersections, new benches and decorative single head streetlights. The landscape includes Medjool Date Palms on the corners, Crape Myrtles trees in between, and Live Oaks planted in the medians, along with other Florida friendly plants.
While the streetscape construction is underway, Cleveland Street will be closed to traffic in front of The Strand. The sales office remains open and can be accessed from the south via Court Street.
